NEW LAB, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn New York
The pneuSENSE project was a temporary architectural installation within the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s New Lab building. The project was developed as part of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IaaC) Global Summer School, NYC, Hyper Cities. Creating data-collection devices, students collected environmental and biometric data within various locations in New York City. This data was used to drive the design of the pneumatic, inflatable structure. Biometric sensors embedded within the installation allowed users to interact with the ‘urban machine’ to check their heart rate, dermal activity, and CO2 levels which were visualized through various pulses and patterns actuated with lighting.
