'MIX Design'
Tangible Mixed Reality for
Concept Design
ADETTI/ISCTE IUL Research Lab
Portugal 2001-2002

The project provides a tangible mixed reality system oriented towards taks in Urban Planning and Architecture like concept design, client brief or education. With MIX Design the user can intuitevely interact with a real scale model with enhanced 3D virtual geometries registred into the real physical ones. The designer can then use tangible interfaces, such as a paddle, to choose menu options, select a 3D virtual object, transport an external new virtual object into the scenario and geometrically edit it by scaling and rotating it.

The system allows for a test-bed for trialing new design concepts where seamlessly transporting the designers from Reality (RE) to Augmented Reality (AR) and then through Augmented Virtuality (AV), towards a full Virtual Environment (VE), and backwhere the designer can perceive and judge both the virtual and real models, interactively and in real-time.
