Architectural design can be explored using digital fabrication processes that combine Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) technologies. CAD/CAM technologies open up new possibilities for the design and fabrication of architecture and architectural structures, systems, and ornamentation. These courses explore historical ornament in architecture, 3D modeling techniques, and digital fabrication through additive and subtractive processes, including 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC milling. These digital design and fabrication processes allow students to explore the role of surface, pattern, ornament, aesthetics, modularity, and effects.
